Name change and name correction policy
Name change and name correction policy
Travel agents may complete self-serve name changes and name corrections in Sabre, Amadeus and Travelport. All tickets exchanged as a result of a name change or name correction are subject to WestJet fare audit policies.
Below, you’ll find our detailed name change and name correction policies. Please review the eligibility criteria to ensure you are following the correct policy for your client’s request.
Name corrections
A name correction is defined as a change to a guest’s name where there is no change to the actual guest travelling (e.g., a spelling error, changing a maiden name to a married name, etc.). Travel agents are permitted to make a name correction for no fee to ensure the name on the ticket/itinerary matches the name on the guest’s government-issued photo identification.
To substitute one guest’s name for another, you must follow our name change policy.
The following guidelines apply for name corrections:
- Name corrections are limited to the same person travelling.
- Tickets must be issued on WestJet 838 ticket stock.
- Tickets must be wholly marketed and operated by WestJet.
- Permitted on all fare types for no fee.
- Name corrections are permitted on codeshare and interline tickets. However, you are required to review the name correction policy of the operating carrier(s) before making the name correction to ensure it is permitted.
- For partially used tickets: If a name correction cannot be supported in your GDS, please call the Travel Support Team.
Name corrections are not permitted for flights wholly marketed and operated by WestJet issued on another airline’s ticket stock.

Steps
- If the scenario meets the name correction eligibility listed above, correct the name in your GDS. Update the Secure Flight Passenger Data (SFPD) information and save the file.
- Add an OSI remark stating the reason for the name correction (see scenarios above for reasons).
- Reissue the ticket with the waiver code added to the endorsement field (see chart for waiver code).
- For a name correction only: Process an even exchange and waive the name change fee.
- For a name correction and itinerary change: The name change fee may be waived but the applicable change/cancel fee or difference in fare (adcol) must be collected when the ticket is reissued.
If you encounter a name mismatch and/or are required to make a new reservation to complete a name correction, please call the Travel Support Team at 1-877-664-3205.
Please ensure you follow the above steps or you will be subject to an ADM.
Name changes
Changes to a guest’s name that do not meet the name correction criteria are considered a name change. If the original guest is no longer travelling, they may transfer their ticket to another guest through a name change. The applicable name change fee associated with the fare class purchased must be charged.
An OSI message or endorsement does not need to be generated. Simply charge the applicable fee at the time of making the name change.
The following guidelines apply for name changes:
- Tickets must be issued on WestJet 838 ticket stock.
- Tickets must be wholly marketed and operated by WestJet.
- Name change must be completed no less than two hours before departure on active reservations.
- Name changes may be completed for no fee for lap-held infants. Name changes for infants in a paid seat are subject to applicable fees associated with the fare class purchased.
- If a name change penalty and an itinerary change penalty are applicable at the same time, only the most restrictive fee should be charged.
- Name changes on an open status ticket are subject to the most restrictive fee.
- Name changes made within 24 hours of booking may be made for no fee. This does not apply if the flight is scheduled to depart within 24 hours of booking.
- For partially used tickets: If a segment has been flown and the original guest wants to transfer their return flight to another guest, standard cancellation rules apply. A new reservation must be created.
Name changes are not permitted for the following scenarios:
- UltraBasic fares. You will be required to cancel the existing reservation and rebook at the current fare under the new name. Standard change/cancel rules apply.
- Codeshare and interline tickets. You will be required to cancel the existing reservation and rebook at the current fare under the new name. Standard change/cancel rules apply.
- Flights wholly marketed and operated by WestJet that are issued on another airline’s ticket stock.
How to make a name change
- Verify the fare permits a name change and the coupon status is OPEN.
- Change the name in your GDS. Update the Secure Flight Passenger Data (SFPD) information and save the file.
- Reissue the ticket.
- For a name change only: Retain the fare and collect the name change fee (plus applicable taxes) upon reissue. No waiver code, OSI message or endorsement is required.
- For a name change and itinerary change: Only the most restrictive penalty should be charged. Collect the difference in fare (adcol) and the most restrictive fee (plus applicable taxes) upon reissue. No waiver code, OSI message or endorsement is required.
